SchoolCenter PictureKernville Elementary is located in the town of Kernville, California, and is one of three school sites in the Kernville Union School District serving the communities of Wofford Heights, Kernville, and Riverkern.  The community is non-industrialized, comprised largely of forestry, small businesses, and services needed to support a resort community.  The background of the student population varies widely.  The student ethnic population consists of eighty-two percent Caucasian, four percent Hispanic, two percent American Indian, and twelve percent other.

The Kernville Elementary school staff includes seven full-time self-contained credentialed teachers, a half-time physical education teacher, a half-time Learning Center specialist, a half-time Title I teacher, and a full-time principal.  All teachers are teaching in their field of training and within their credential authorizations.


Classified staff members include one full-time secretary, two food service personnel, two custodians, and six instructional aides. 


Kernville Elementary operates on a traditional school year calendar and is in session one hundred and eighty days.  Total instructional minutes per day by grade level are the following: Kindergarten: 305 Grades 1-3: 295   Grades 4-5: 345


Supplemental programs include Title I, special education, summer school (grades two through eight), counseling services, parent volunteer programs, ropes course instruction, and a three-hour after school program offered to all students grades K through 5.  In addition, the Kernville Union School District employs a part-time psychologist to conduct behavioral, neurological, instructional, and health assessments to determine the student's educational and counseling needs. 


The district operates a Family Resource Center.  This agency is instrumental in coordinating services from local agencies to meet the various needs of our students and families.
